Prelude
Welcome
Leader: Hey, everybody! God has a job for us!
People: We were once people who dwelled in darkness, but God has given us the true Light, Jesus Christ.
Leader: God! The God who has known you, even before you were born.
People: What are you talking about? How could someone know me before there was anyone to know?
Leader: I’m talking about God! God has known all about you since forever.
People: Ummm . . . sounds kind of creepy.
Leader: It’s not creepy, it’s fabulous! This is a God who has always known and loved you and will always love you no matter what.
People: That’s amazing! So, what’s the job?
Leader: Spread the news! Share the love! Shine the light! Sing the song!
People: Hey, slow down! That’s a big job. Can’t God just take care of it?
Leader: God is taking care of it—by giving you what you need to do the job. God has chosen you!
*PRAYER
*opening hymn "Great is Thy Faithfulness" UMH 140
*APOSTLES’ CREED UMH 882
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic** church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
(**catholic – universal)

For you to consider:
Psalm 40 is a reminder that even when life is difficult, God is good. Sometimes we experience that abundant grace in surprising or even miraculous ways, but most of the time it comes through the generosity and caring of the community of faith around us. We are supported by one another. We are lifted and rescued by one another. How might God use you this week to rescue another?
LECTIONARY SCRIPTURES FOR NEXT WEEK
