Kleenex Ministry

The 2020-2021 school year began on Wednesday for USD 294. As of this date, we have delivered 192 of the 650+ boxes of tissue. You may continue to bring them to worship or the church office at your convenience. Thank you for your contributions to this ministry.

USD 294 Back to School Prayer Walk

38 walker/drivers/prayers circled Oberlin Elementary School and Decatur Community Jr./Sr. High School on Sunday evening, August 23, 2020 to pray for the 2020-2021 academic year. Thank you to all who walked and drove and for those of you that continue to hold our public education system in prayer.

Back to School Blessing

Bless my paper and my pen.
Guide my spirit deep within.
Help me think and help me play,
This whole school year, day by day.

As I move from class to class,
Guide my footsteps; clear my path.
Keep my tongue to speak your words.
Let your will for me be heard.

In every subject high or low,
May God's excellence be shown!
Keep me strong to reach the prize,
To grow in grace, becoming wise.

Whether far from home or near,
May I hold God's precepts dear.
To do my best at every task;
For this blessing, I do ask.

Help my family be a part
As I lift my mind and heart.
As I study, work, and pray,
Be with them throughout the day.

Of whom much is given, much is required.
May learning be your greatest desire!

Thoughts From Pastor Gordon

Ever have those one of those days, weeks, months or years when you struggle to find a reason for the seasons of your life? Those times come for all of us at one time or another. Recently, I found my self saying the words to 10,000 Reasons. Might we turn our words to thankfulness to God for the blessings we receive?

10,000 Reasons (Bless The Lord)
Bless the Lord O my soul O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before O my soul
I'll worship Your holy name
The sun comes up it's a new day dawning
It's time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes
You're rich in love and You're slow to anger
Your name is great and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find
And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore
Worship Your holy name
Lord I'll worship Your holy name
Sing like never before O my soul
I'll worship Your holy name
Worship Your holy name
Worship Your holy name

David lists in Psalm 103 several reasons why his heart is full of worship for God; He forgives our sins, heals our diseases, redeems our lives from the pit, crowns us with love and compassion, satisfies our desires and gives righteousness and justice. So Redman and Myrin made a list of their own, noting they were barely scratching the surface of God's worth. "The point behind the song is this, if you wake up one morning and you cannot think of a reason to bring God some kind of offering of thanks or praise, then you can be sure there's something wrong at your end of the pipeline, and not his. We live beneath an unceasing flow of goodness, kindness, greatness, and holiness, and every day we're given reason after reason why Jesus is so completely and utterly worthy of our highest and best devotion."
