Leader: People of God, who do you come to worship?
People: We come to worship the one true God.

and love.
Leader: Come, you who belong to God. Come, you who are
foolish in the eyes of the world.
*PRAYER
OPENING HYMN " Bring Forth the Kingdom of God"
TFWS 2190
APOSTLES’ CREED UMH 882
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

For you to consider:
The emphasis of the beatitudes should be on the
blessing. Jesus isn’t condemning folk for not living into this
promise; he is blessing those who already have a vision of what
it means to be fully alive in Christ and encouraging those who
haven’t yet caught that vision to lean into the possibilities.
How do we balance blessing and challenge? How do we
offer gratitude and exhortation both? We all need to feel that
blessing, that presence of spirit and affirmation of our desire to
follow Christ. At the same time, we can issue the challenge to
continue in the way that leads to the kind-dom. We can grow
in faith and witness. “Where do we go from here?”
